• if you think wylde and such are intermediate, you have problems. yes they arent as good as other greats but they are far far better than your average guitar player.
• I disagree. shredding is nothing like playin your average music. not every aspiring guitarist has to be able to shred. most styles dont even incorporate sweep picking or finger tapping. I would say look to the blues/hard rock. thats where you learn the scales you need and the bending/vibrato techniques. shredding is just sweeping of major and classical scales. and frankly.. by itself its annoying to listen too. cool, but annoying.
• split harmonics used to be cool until zakk overkilled them. now i can't bare to listen to a split harmonic. thanks zakk. i'll kick your lil fag biker wannabe ass. in a fair fight you can bring your mom. enjoy snapping twig.
• yeah its true everones all like "YEAH Satriani shreds!!" true but its not what the guitar is all about its about chillin and doing sommin cool
• the way i look at it is like this. If i can hear the emotion there putting into it in more than 80% of there songs then there something good, and deserve credit. I would much rather listen to Zakk than MAB or Satriani, even though there technicality is greater their emotion is very vague, while with Zakk it's very easy to tell if he wants to bring you to a very mellow place, sad, or angry.
• A very balanced view. Like I said, he is very destinctive and brings his own flavour to the music industry. But fanboys wont accept a balanced view. They get aggressive and start bitching everytime you bring some facts in.
• These are intermediate level guitarists. There is of course musicality, which you are having serious difficulty grasping. Randy Rhodes is one of those guitarists that had a balance of technique AND musicality, like Slash, Zakk, Jake E.Lee et al. However, fanboys build them up to be something extra special. As for popularity...Madonna is more popular and has outsold all these guitarists ten fold. Is she a great musician? No. Popularity does not = substance. As a guitarist they are not spectacular

• I wasnt talking about musicality, just technique. As far as guitar goes, I'm not one for shredders. But they are the ones guitarists need to look at when learning guitar. But rarely are. Instead the most popular guitarists in the media are blown up to be something they arent.
• I've seen al Zakk has to give technically. It's not that fantastic. Sure it may sound nice. But to claim he is some kind of tech monster is to go overboard...alot. And everytime someone says this stuff fanboys pee their pants fury. Just like DragonFarce fans, and please dont even talk to me about them if you think they are great, I'm really not in the mood for that one @_@
• go check some more vids of zak playing technically, eg the ones from the dvd paris chapter the acoustic bit and look at machine gun man too they're good

• Agreed Alternate Picking is much harder. That's not to say that Sweep Picking isnt hard, but alternate picking is far more demanding both physically and in terms of accuracy. Sweep Picking challenges your muting alot more though.
• First of all I was talking about Slash (If you read my post PROPERLY you'd know). Secondly, I was right. And Zakk is nothing special either. I suggest you watch Michael Angelo's "Speed Kills" and then come and tell me Zakk is outstanding technically. If you dont play guitar or cant play that well then he will look amazing. But once you start learning to play properly and start discovering shredders, you'll see that they just dont compete at all.
