• Like you can see in this video, compressor adds sustain. And because it makes quiet sounds louder, it helps if you're tapping, playing hammer-ons and pull-offs. But without distortion it's a very subtle effect, as this video demonstrates. But it makes the dynamics of music narrower. That could be good or bad, depends what kind of music is played.
• without being a douche can someone tell me why you would use a compresser, it seems to make your notes just the same volume and that seems like a bad thing, becasue if your playing soft you want a soft sound and if your playing loud you want a loud sound, how would takeing that away help in the least?

• I think it would have been a lot more help if he had actually explained what the dials did rather than just look its on and it doesn't do much. Compression is far more important than this guy says. Not impressed with his noob like comments.

• Depends on the compression gain i guess. pre-compression usually works. but to answer your question i do beleive it'll help A BIT. not dramatically as you may think but it sure will help.
