It was the job of the press to let the world know about the appalling fate of these people. Have you ever noticed the US Press barely covers India, Latin America, many third world countries.
You know I think he got angry not because of Americans being generaly well-off but rather the song, the concert was a plea to bring relief to the starvation. For someone to yell out a request for "Bangla Desh" as if it were "My Guitar Gently Weeps" or most any song was trivializing a horrendous tragedy he witnessed. That is why he became angry- at the sheer ignorance. After George passed, Paul commented that George "suffered no fools". That guy was worse than a fool.
Im sorry...but this song does nt reflect the country in good light...n I would never be happy if the people were happy with this song.... I would reply to a song...in this manner.... America....poor America....so ignorant ....so pityfull....I wonder whether the Ams will be proud of the song...

Great song, great singer, great cause for our great country.
I have never seen George put such raw feeling into a song. Such a tragedy. When I saw George in Chicago, someone yelled out a request for "Bangla Desh" and he got angry, made some crack the individual rather deserved.
A great night in musical history - but this song "Bangla Desh" is what it was really all about. I think George (Harrison) was the first one ever to call some guys together for a Charity Concert (!) - (then followed by others such as Geldorf etc)
